home positions
mirror, camera, monitor – moving pictures in space
2000
Three industrial robots stand in a triangular relationship in the middle of the exhibition space: a palletizing robot, an articulated arm robot and a console robot. Each stands on its own on a black pedestal, but within reach of its neighbors. Each of the machines carries its own tool in its robotic hand - monitor, camera, mirror shere - with which the space in the image can be captured or represented.
The extraordinary mobility of the robot arms allows the camera to capture the room from different perspectives and flexibly to position the camera image with the monitor in the room. Depending on its position, the sphere shows different spherical views of the hall, the robots and the viewer. When the camera looks into the sphere, its distorted view of the room appears on the monitor. The camera view into the monitor creates multiplications and closed-circuit effects.
“home positions” was a commission by KUKA-Roboter-GmbH Augsburg for their presentation hall and was inaugurated there on September 25, 2000.
